Due to the tremendous growth of Women of Hope over the past six years, we have developed a new program to provide for children and teens who have received a cancer diagnosis called A Kids Hope.  Both of these programs, Women of Hope and A Kids Hope, are now operating under our corporate name of Hope Abounds, Inc.  This latest expansion of services happened in the last quarter of 2015 and will be fully implemented through the year of 2016.
By helping to meet some of the basic needs of those who are battling a cancer diagnosis, Hope Abounds, Inc. is instrumental in allowing the patient and family to concentrate on being their own best advocate during their treatment.  Hope Abounds provides educational and support programs, helping with patient advocacy and offering financial assistance.  We offer hope that you are not alone in your journey!
We are enthusiastic to share that we are partnered with the Pediatric Staff at UNC Chapel Hill this year as we launch A Kids Hope programs. The scope of reach and influence for Hope Abounds, Inc. continues to grow as we partner with major hospital systems through the region to bring education, hope, awareness and hopeful prevention of cancer through education for future generations.

We need the help of donors and sponsors to continue to expand the services Hope Abounds can offer.  Your donations will give Hope Abounds the privilege of helping families through one of their most difficult times.  As donors, you are a key part of our organization.  It is worthwhile, it is important.  Help us offer hope!  Thank you, we appreciate your support.

6th Annual East Coast Shag Classic “Shag-4-Hope” Weekend Getaway is a three day weekend fundraising event at the beautiful, ocean front Holiday Inn Resort in Wrightsville Beach, NC, January 26-29, 2017. This event includes shag dancing and beach music while benefiting Hope Abounds, Inc.

Hope Abounds, Inc. is a 501(C)(3) charity that was created to help women, children, teens, and those that love them, journeying through a cancer diagnosis and treatment. A cancer diagnosis can be devastating to the way a family is able to function normally on a day to day basis.  The monetary and time expenditure, and the emotional toll all need to be dealt with while going through treatment and beyond. Hope Abounds was created to help meet the emotional, educational, advocacy and spiritual needs of families in this fight. With monies raised though fund raising events Hope Abounds is able to offer financial assistance, in addition to educational and support programs to those that qualify during active treatment.

The Annual East Coast Shag Classic is one of the signature fund raising events for Hope Abounds, Inc.  Hope Abounds originated in Wilmington, NC and this event celebrates beach music and shag dancing that originated in the Coastal Carolina areas. Participants come from all over the eastern United States, as well as the local communities.  The three day festivities include shag & line dance lessons, an incredible silent auction, and some of the best beach music bands around.

Come join us for a fabulous and fun weekend.  Come see what Hope Abounds does and hear about those we have been able to support.  The services Hope Abounds, Inc. offers are important.  We offer HOPE!

Surviving cancer is not the end of a gruesome story.
It is the beginning of a beautiful one…..

A cancer diagnosis can be devastating to the way a family is able to function normally on a day to day basis.  The average time for chemotherapy treatment is 4-6 months.  Some treatments can last a year.  This may start after a surgical procedure that requires recovery time prior to the start of chemotherapy.
If the diagnosed patient is a single income earner, or one half of a duel income family, the economic effect is significant.  When a child or teen is diagnosed, the same issue arises when one parent needs to be with the patient throughout the treatment.  Taking that parent out of the day to day schedule has emotional effects on other minor children within the home.  Who will take the other children to after school activities?  Who will make dinners, go to the grocery, maintain the secure home atmosphere for the children not diagnosed?  How can Dad earn the necessary income and maintain the home?

Deductibles for insurance are due at the start of treatment.  Most are significant for those trying to keep the monthly premiums low.  The average cost is $1,318 out of pocket before insurance begins to cover part of the bills.  Each doctor visit requires a copay.  The average copay for a specialist doctor visit is $30-$50.  Procedures needed for appropriate diagnosis that include an MRI, X-rays, radiation may not be fully covered.  The estimated cost of initial chemotherapy is $7,000.  More than one round of chemotherapy may be necessary.  This is the reality of a cancer diagnosis.

Financial support is available for patients and families that qualify during active treatment.  This is in addition to emotional, educational, patient advocacy, and spiritual support. The type of support can be specified by the patient, parent, or immediate family affected.

Hope Abounds offers educational programs to help guide the patient diagnosed to be the best advocate for themselves.  When accepted into our program the patient is offered a personal patient advocate, to help encourage and identify what will be the most effective way for Hope Abounds to make a difference.  We understand the overwhelming feeling that comes with a diagnosis.  We are here to offer HOPE!
