Theatrical Gel Scrollers Question?

Hey, I am a technician for my school and were doing the production of les miserable. We are short dimmers and I need all the ones I can spare. Currently the lighting plot consitest of par 64's and I was planning to use color scrollers to light the stage with color. It takes 4 pars to make a wash on are stage with the pars. Anyone have and ideas of good Gel Scrollers to rent that give me lots of options. I have a board that is capable of running lots of channels. Any input would be help full.

There are a lot of different brands of scroller out there - get in touch with a local lighting hire company and see what they stock. The tricky part is making up the scrolls; most hire companies will provide a "standard" scroll, but can make up custom ones (at a cost) for you. For Les Mis, you're probably going to want custom scrolls, and while you could make them yourself, it's a complete pain and worth the money to get them made. You'll be able to run 4 scrollers from one power supply, so it'll only use one desk channel; just remember that changing the colour (unless you're only going one frame) takes time and really needs to be done in blackout, so if you're planning on using them in every scene you might have problems - maybe 2 sets of pars, and alternate scenes? Also the noise factor needs to be taken into account - scrollers make a racket! The fans aren't quiet (although some of the more high-end scrollers have a second channel to control fan speed, so when the lamps are dark you can switch the fan down or off) and if you go quickly from one end of the scroll to the other it makes a reasonably loud noise. But I think they'd be a good solution to your problem, and cost you a whole lot less to hire than moving lights. Break a leg!
