Storage Rack Music

4 home use, what's the easiest way to build a system with 10+ terabytes of storage? lots music, etc.?
I know computers fairly well. I build and maintain my own computers. I have 4-6 terabytes of music, photos, etc. spread out over numerous external drives(more to come, avid collector of music) and would like to build a tower for my home network that is nothing but a 'rack' of harddrives. Not really talking about a web server here but is it just a matter of a pc card to expand the number of harddrives supported and building a system that is nothing but storage, looking for pointers on easiest way to do this.
I understand the necessity keep good backups of family photos and other things, I own the cd's for the music so can rip that again anytime I lose the data. I just want to consolidate everything. good answers, keep 'em coming, lol.
You are on the right track. The only thing you would need to select to make it all work is the correct operating system. In the past I would have recommended Linux but Microsoft actually has a new product that simplifies everything and has gotten very good reviews - Windows Home Server. All you needs is a broadband connection and an Ethernet connection on your media server, and the system requirements are very reasonable. You can try it for 120 days free to see how you like it. There are system boards that support 8 sata controllers, so you should not have to worry about having to many through an PCI controller, look for one by Asus.
