I'm looking to use an AMD Dual core socket 2 CPU in my Build and the part i'm stuck on at this stage of my research is that some boards have a 4 or 8 pin CPU Power connector.
I was under the assumption that the CPU was powered by the motherboard!
Is this just for extra power for the CPU? and how does the power connect to the CPU?

When you open the motherboard you get a manal, read it first, but simply put, make sure that if there are any unused sockets on the motherboard that you have a plug for, use it.

And your processor IS powered by the motherboard, which is powered from the case/power supply.
