Random light on stage after a Broadway show?
After the theater is cleared at the end of a Broadway show there's always a light on a pole that gets put out in the center of the stage. I've scene it numerous times and here's an example of that light,

It's driving me crazy, anyone have any idea what the light's for?
It's called a Ghost Light. It's main purpose is to illuminate the stage for safety while the theatre is dark, but the light being on a pole is mostly tradition. The theatre "ghosts of shows past" won't become restless and mischievous with the presence of the ghost light. Or something like that - I do theatre tech but don't pay much attention to the superstitious side of it.
Here's a wiki entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_light_(theatre)
Mostly it's to keep people from walking off the stage into the orchestra pit.
