Anyone know of some 3-D stage light design software?
I'm looking for a program that is MAC compatible and that does not need to be hooked up to any DMX or light controller. I just need visualization software that allows me to set up truss systems and light fixtures in a 3-D interface then program their movements ect to say a song and watch it back in THE COMPUTER to see how it looks like a "test-run" for clients before all of the work is put into place. Please help! To be honest i'm not so sure a program exists, i just dont know where to start.
aha! I'm not sure whether its exactly what your looking for, but its got a good chance!!
What you can do, it get TWO programs, one which is a visualizer and one that is like an on-screen lighting desk, called on Offline Editor, or OFE for short.
I would recomend getting the WYSIWYG demo (free), which is a 3D real-time view of the staging, fixtures, light beams, animated smoke, media servers etc. You can get the full version, but only if you have £800 to spare! Its THE BEST of its kind - most lighting designers use it! Then, you can get an OFE like, Hog2PC or Chamsys MagicQ or LightFactory (I wouldnt recommend lightfactory). They then hook up to each other (as long as they are on the same computer) and you control what is going on the 3D real-time stage using the OFE.
However, this means learning to use a new lighting desk (Hog2PC is easy to learn on!), which you may not have time to do, but it does look quite good on your CV (in theatre etc) if you can use an advanced, high-end lighting desk.
I'm 99% sure these are available on MAC, but it would be worth checking first!
