Why don't I have berries on my mountain ash?
I have had a mountain ash for several years. It is a very healthy looking tree that receives full sun. In the spring, the tree will be loaded with flower clusters. These will then turn into the start of tiny green berries. Soon after they fall off. You can just touch them and they will drop. I might get 10 single berries on the whole tree that will actually make it to the full stage red berry. Why does this happen? Do I need another mountain ash to pollinate? I don't think it is lack of pollinators as we have plenty of bees and humming birds that have no problem pollinating our 3 apple and 5 crap apple trees.
Mature fruit would be more likely with another ash nearby. The sites below give several reasons for premature berry drop.
