Questions regarding LED light strips?
Hey there,
So I want to make my friend a pair of light-up socks, that change colors automatically. My idea is to take a flexible LED light strip (waterproof) and wrap it in a spiral fashion around the outside of a sock, then take a second sock and slip it over the top. (Basically sandwiching the light strip between the 2 socks.)
Here are my questions: Are the LED light strips too bulky? Is there another flexible light strip that would be thinner?
Secondly, would I need some sort of RGB controller to make the LED strip change colors? If I do, how small can you get them?
Thanks! I really appreciate it.
what a great idea! LED strips (as used in pimped cars) would not really suit this job - they need 12 volts and only come in single colours - so you can buy a red strip, or a blue strip, or a green strip - and the battery + electronics to power that lot and switch colours would be way too bulky and impractical - but there are other possibilities.
1. you can buy small multi-colured lights that contain their own batteries - they are used on cat and dog collars, so you can find your pet at night - look on Ebay with these search words (or see 1st link below)

2. if you are handy with a soldering iron, you can buy single multi-coloured LEDs that just require a couple of AA cels to flash by themselves - see 2nd link below
