I know that RGB (Red Green BLue) and CMYK (Cyan Magenta Yellow Black) are the real primary colours but why...?
but why is red blue yellow used for art classes and why they mix. I thought CMYK was the ink paint etc. HELP PLEASE. THANK YOU.
The RBY colour wheel is used in most art classes because the pigments used in most paint will produce a full range of colours when you blend these three hues.
One could teach, and use, the CMYB tecnique, but it would be harder for most beginners to master. It is used in printing because colour reproduction in printing is mostly done as a photographic process, and CMY are the colours of the negatives produced by RGB, when the negatives are exposed. (This is the process known as doing colour separations.)
