Translators: A bit of advice, please?
I've just completed a four-year Bachelor's degree in Italian, and I've got a resume all typed up and ready to go. I want to be an Italian translator, but I'm stuck on what to do. I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and there are no translation agencies nearby (the closest one is an hour away in New Orleans). I've searched the American Translator's Association's website for companies that offer translation services, but do I just send a bunch of companies my resume and hope they start sending me stuff to translate, or is there a more complicated process? I just don't want to look like an idiot if there's a certain protocol to be followed. I've never applied for a job that isn't right in town, and I'm unsure how contracting and whatnot works, so any advice is appreciated!
I don't know how it works in your country... Apart from sending your resumé to as much companies as possible, why don't you try and go to some of them in person as well ?
And why not try the italian embassy, or consulate, or any italian company that works in your aerea ?
And try to post this question in italian on the italian Q/R, no harm in trying...
Good luck, buona fortuna, I hope you get a nice job, Italian is the most beautiful language in the world !
