Isn't it clear that the unions are totally to blame for the failing US auto industry?
The blame for the failing US auto industry,the plunging quality of teachers and schools, police corruption, and the sub par quaility of American enterprise can totally be blamed TOTALLY on the unions.
Unions have got to go.
Unions=communism.
Can anyomne seriously justify the continued existance of unions,in light of the ammount of damage they have done to America?
The only way the government should bailout GM and Chysler is if the union is disbanded.
To be in a union is to hate America.
In the global marketplace auto manufacturers look to locate their plants where there aren't unions.
The US used to manufacture the most steel in the world. In 1972 a steel worker started out at $16/hr. Now he's long been unemployed.
I live in the Seattle area. I had a friend in the early 80's boasted that he (and the people he worked with) were the highest paid shipbuilders in the world. Now he manages a fitness club.
There was a time and place for unions. Today families can be much more mobile if they choose and they do choose to pick up and move to greener pastures and change careers.
Here in Washington State a few years back the 2nd highest paid teachers in the state went on strike for months. The kids ended up going to school well into August. The problem was that the school district had maximized all of it's levies - there was no more money to be had. The union thought they could provoke a "state of emergency" and the governor would find money, but it didn't happen. The net result was about 500 familes pulled thier kids out of the public school and put them in private and about 70 teachers lost their jobs due to the reduced enrollment.
Unions have always been a breeding ground for corruption. Now they are putting pressure on congress to make their union votes "open" instead of "secret". That way they can intimidate people who don't vote pro-union.
Unions boast that membership is increasing, but as a percentage of the total workforce, it's decreasing.
Unions aren't communism they are fascist - they take over a shop and they become the ultimate authority. You don't have a choice but to pay your union dues and they are always on the move to conquer new shops and indoctrinating new members. They even embrace the nationalistic appeal as they will always wave the American flag when they strike and have bumper stickers that equate unionism with nationalism; "Proud American Worker", etc. Communism and unionism are competing ideologies just like we saw in 1930's Germany and 1980's Poland.
The automakers know that the unionis are killing then and the executives take what they can knowing there may not be a tomorrow.
