What laws or statutes are in place for the use of white or amber flashing lights on a non-emergency vehicle?
I would like to add white and/or amber flashing LED strobe lights on my business vehicle which may be used for events, roadway and highway safety and other various non-emergency activities when the vehicle is not moving on the roadway or highway and is parked. I would like to know what laws and statutes exist which I can read, to make sure this is not illegal and I will not be harrassed by police for using the vehicle when directing traffic, blocking roadways, or sitting roadside at an event or non-emergency scene.
Each state has their own ruling on the use of amber or white strobes/flashing lights. Some states do require documentation authorizing the use and others have an umbrella policy of certain types of vehicles can use them without any additional documentation.
Normally, amber lights can be used on vehicles used for service/delivery without any complaints (rural mail carriers, newspaper delivery, trash collection, etc)
Please update your info with the state you are referring to so we can give you better answers.
