Ok, I hope someone has a solution. Heres my problem; we have a powered mixer plugged in behind the stage, next to the light controls. It powers two speakers with its main powered outputs. Then, the main line output goes to the PA system, which is basically a big power amp and speakers. Also back there is an old lighting system, and a DMX light board. There is a bad buzz coming through all speakers. The only inputs on my mixer are mics. The buzz is pretty loud. Any help would be great. -Tim
Is the power amp and mixer plugged into the same outlet? Grounding issues, especially in an older building, can cause buzzing. The other thing to try would be to relocate either the mixer if it's in proximity to the dimmer pack or disconnect the DMX light board to see if that has any affect. If none of this seems to help, unplug each mic one at a time and see if the issue is with a mic or cable. As final band-aid you could try a hum eliminator from Ebtech:
