Student Laptop advice...?
I am starting my A level study soon and am looking to get a decent laptop that I can take to and from school, to write my school work assignments on but also to surf the web and use MSN and Skype at home, so can anyone recomend a good laptop:?
i was looking at the inspiron mini as that is relitavely compact and has an in built webcam, it also has a fairly decent harddrive space of 160GB
although it only has 1G of memory space/RAM..will this be a problem? i will only be running instant messanger, internet(youtube ect) and word for writing the essays.
anyone who has one that can give me their oppinion, it would be appreciated, equally if someone knows an ok rival laptop for a similar or cheaper price £250 ish cut off
thanks
What you want to ask yourself is do you want a netbook or a full laptop. I would say the main differences are:
Netbook (The Dell mini is a netbook):
- Small and portable
- Designed primarily for accessing the web and limited word processing
Laptop:
- Better performance
- DVD drive etc
If portability is an important factor for you then go for a Netbook, but if you think you will ever be doing more than basic word processing and internet activities then I'd go for a full laptop. It sounds to me like you want a netbook as you're going to be transporting it to and from school and only using it for basic tasks i.e. no processor heavy tasks like video or image editing. You can usually tell if something is a netbook as it will have no DVD drive, usually use the Intel Atom processor and be smaller and cheaper
You could do a lot worse than the Dell mini. Take a look at this article: http://www.reghardware.com/2010/09/01/grouptest_netbooks_intro/
