Just a random question about laser pointers?
I notice when I look at where the laser is, especially if it's something that absorbs alot of the light, the lasers has little speckles rather than being a solid light color. What are these speckles and why does this effect occur?
The effect you are describing is called laser speckle. The link below has a good explanation and some experiments.
Edit--
The speckles are not dust, they come from constructive and destructive interference as the laser light reflects off surface bumps which are about the same height as the wavelength of the light.
