Can I bleach a black cloth to gray or white without destroying the fabric?
The Company I work for has decided we all need to wear FR (fire retardant) clothing with a calorie rating of 25. They found some made of a fairly light fabric for summer use and then bought it in Black. Nice try but not one of their brightest decisions. I doubt if the color matters so how can I turn it white or gray or something that doesn't heat up in the sun?
If it's fire retardant fabric it's probably not cotton so chances are that bleach will do very little to change the color. Also depending on the black dye that was used, bleaching could lighten it to anything from navy to burgundy to grey, there's no telling until after it's done. Sorry.
